Thanks Jukka but I'm confused. I browsed https://repository.apache.org/content/groups/snapshots-group/org/apache/tika/tika-app/1.0-SNAPSHOT/ and saw tika-app-1.0-20110802.120407-81.jar but I understand you were directing me to build from source and previous Tika source downloads have had names like apache-tika-0.9-src.zip so I was expecting a ZIP. Presumably the README is inside an archive, giving instruction on how to identify the archive and unpack it! Sorry if I am being ignorant but I know almost nothing about Java; maybe tika-app-1.0-20110802.120407-81.jar is an archive ... ? Best Charles
