Yes, and even if customers were prepared to recompile their modules they might not be able to do so, for example if they were using a 3rd party library via perl's XS C extension mechanism, and the library in question only has 32-bit versions. The last time we looked seriously at LP64 perl (admittedly some time ago) this was one of the reasons we decided not to jump. However, things have obviously moved on and now is probably the right time to take the plunge.
