For any Userland folks with an interest in running Sun Ray with the
iPad or Android OVDC client, there is an upcoming class. See details
below. I only mention this because I find it so handy to run a Sun Ray
server on my laptop and to be able to access my Solaris desktop via my
iPad. Also it is so easy to set up. I find it handy for checking
email, for example.

To use the iPad on S11 or later, you need to use SRSS version 5.4 which
I do not think is actually released yet, but I believe will be soon.
To install it and make it work with iPad, just run these commands as
root:

  $ cd /import/sunray/srs/5.4/build/stable/release/image
  $ ./utsetup -d
  $ /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utadm -L on
  $ /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utpolicy -a -g -z both -M -u both
  $ /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utstart -c

Then install the OVDC client on your iPad via the Apple Store (I just
search for Oracle, there are only a couple of Oracle apps to wade
through) and connect. I haven't used Android so I don't know how that
works, but I imagine it is similarly easy. If not, the upcoming class
probably would help.

BTW, I do find that the GNOME desktop becomes a lot more useful on the
smaller display of the iPad if you:
- Right click on the panel, go to preferences to increase panel width.
- Go to System->Preferences->Appearance and select bigger fonts.

Also, the desktop runs faster with Sun Ray and without if you install
the group/feature/multi-user-desktop package and run this command as
root:

  $ svcadm enable multi-user-desktop

Note: I like to use this multi-user-desktop package and SMF service on
my normal non-Sun Ray desktop since I like the more performant desktop
(such as wireframe window move/resize and black background).
