Hi Bruce, Setting the SUNJMX variable (as follows) before starting the server using "activmq-admin start" helped. I was then able to gracefully shutdown the server using "activemq-admin stop".
export SUNJMX="-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=1099 -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true" Thanks a lot for your help.
