How to detect slow consumers

We have the problem at a customer that our message store is growing all 
the time in some cases.
It might be related to having slow consumers. Is it possible to detect 
these?

For information we are using mainly topics and partly retro active 
consumer policy in AMQ. We are also using vm Cursor but are not sure
if maybe the default would be better.
