What happened was that I upgraded the host and fat-fingered a part of the database. Pure sloppiness on my part.
I upgraded in order to run the very latest version of aox (which requires postgres 9.1, hence the upgrade), which I plan to release as aox 3.2.0 in a few weeks. I do not plan to write any more code, only watch the logs and when I'm happy, change the version number. Code review and testing would be welcome. Arnt
