It was our bug, not Apple's. Apple reproduced the bug and added a
workaround this morning, currently going through the process:

However, I do NOT understand how aox can have this bug.

shows quite plainly that aox does not send the extra space that Apple's
code rejects. The space is there, I have seen with my own eyes. Puzzling.
Must look on Saturday.
