This is an excellent writeup Nathan - we should add a "Cool Tools" section (or something like that) to the wiki.

Matt mentioned Firebug in another thread and I must agree. It is indeed a very cool Firefox plugin. Not only for the JS debugging capabilities, but also for CSS and (X)HTML. That sparked my post for this other free and very cool plugin, Mylar. This one is for Eclipse and it basically is a tool to help you multi-task. It does a ton of stuff so I won't get into all of the detail, but I'll list some of the core features so you can get an idea of what it does. * Mylar adds a Task List view to eclipse for displaying a list of tasks [duh ;)] * You can create local tasks or connect to a "task repository" [e.g. Bugzilla, Trac, JIRA -- I knew I'd get your attention there ;)] * You can assign "contexts" to tasks. This means that as you "activate" a task [meaning that you are working on it], Mylar monitors which files/classes/methods/etc are important to this task and will allow you to filter out everything else in the package explorer/outline/editor/etc. So only the stuff you need is what you see. * You can attach "contexts" to tasks. So other people can use the context you built if you are working on the same [or related] task. I have only played with Mylar for a couple of days, but so far it seems like one of those "how did I ever live without this" tools. One word of caution... My Eclipse seems to have a memory leak that I have not identified yet. Since I upgraded to 3.2 in order to use Mylar I don't know if the problem is in Mylar or some other plugin [apparently I went kinda crazy with Callisto--see Eclipse 3.2 if you don't know what Callisto is]. homepage: http://www.eclipse.org/mylar/ intro webinar: http://adobedev.adobe.acrobat.com/p46246963 Nathan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
