I had similar problems.
I think that maven has corrupted part of its repository.
The problem is probably in either the
.m2\repository\org\codehaus\mojo\hibernate3-maven-plugin\2.0-SNAPSHOT
or the .m2\repository\org\hibernate\hibernate-tools\3.2.0.beta9a.
I would try deleting (or renaming) these directories and next time maven
should try and download them again.
The .m2 directory should be in your home directory (linux/unix)
or in the C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\ directory (windows).
