I agree - it would be nice if it worked 100% with the IDEs. The good news is it works much better than 1.x did (mainly due to XDoclet issues). I think it *can* work, it's just a matter of figuring out the configuration. You could probably setup an external tool configuration to launch "mvn jetty:run-war" from the IDE. If you'd like to enter an issue in JIRA - that will make it easier for us to track and add your desired feature(s).
