The simplest way to fix it is to set an explicit dependency on the Hibernate version you want in your project's pom.
If you are interested, run mvn -X and pipe to a log file: e.g. mvn -X install > mvn.log and look through the logfile to see which dependency is pulling in the wrong version of Hibernate. Mike.
