This is an excellent idea. Please add the issues in JIRA and/or create an account for Confluence and edit the pages yourself. We'll be more than happy to review your changes. Is there some reason that mvn eclipse:eclipse doesn't set M2_REPO? If you ask me, it's a bug. ;-) It sure would be nice if it set it for you. The good news is you only have to set it once for your workspace. I've found it pretty easy to do for the 1-2 times a year I change my workspace. I agree we should have more explicit documentation on how to do it.
