Well Kai I hope this helps any.

If I do the following I get it to work. I unzip your attachment on local system (vista) than I have to change Ã? into ä in the sample-data.xml and the DaoTest.java . Then I change the encoding of sample-data.xml to utf-8 else it throws the java.io.UTFDataFormatException. I dont change the encoding of the DaoTest.java. The opposite there is the case, if I change the encoding form ANSI to UTF-8 of the DaoTest.java the test fails!

So maybe this works for you, at least I hope so. You probably have to change the Ã? to whatever after you upload to your production environment and dont change the encoding of the java files.

I really do fear you have already done it this way and this isnt helping you any. But its all I can do for you from here since I am currently not running any of your environments.
