You might take a look at Alfresco. This is an open source content management system and some of the developers of EMC's Documentum worked on this. A quick way take a look at it is with the VMWare virtual image from JumpBox. See

There are other content management systems available there as virtual images that you can look at as well. I have not integrated any of these into AppFuse. Alfresco should not be too difficult as there are good APIs available.
