Hi Fei
Xu,
I'm
not sure if you were looking for feedback on your note since you didn't ask any
questions, but here are some brief reactions:
- If
you are only developing internal modules, you don't really need to worry whether
commercial extensions are allowed or not (although, as you noted, they
are)
- Bugs
are a fact of life of every software project. Without specifics, it's hard
to comment on whether the ones that you have encountered are have already been
reported or fixed. If they haven't been reported, you should make sure
that you create a new bug report in the issue database so that someone gets a
chance to fix them.
- The
Eclipse UML2 project doesn't compete at all with ArgoUML. As a matter of
fact, it's one possible path forward for implementing UML 2.1 support in our
Model subsystem. If you are interested in Eclipse, you should be sure to
check out the ArgoEclipse project. A more credible threat would be from a
plugin which leveraged Eclipse's new GMF project to create a competitor.
If such a competitor were to develop, it would have a different set of strengths
and weaknesses than ArgoUML, so they would probably occupy separate niches, at
least initially. Of course long term development roadmaps and competitive
strengths are much more difficult to predict.

Subject: [argouml-users] Great tool & a little worry!Hello,I'm a new user of ArgoUML. I'm invesgating ArgoUML and then I will decide whether to use Argo in our project and whether it's worth to develop some modules for argoUML for internal use.
The reason I choose ArgoUML is1) it's opensource2) commercial modules are allowed to be integrated with ArgoUML3) supoort C++But after several days of using(I'm still in the progress of reading user manual), I'm a little worried about this project now.1)I encountered several bugs already & often. like diagram repaint bug, can't delete package from model in the explorer pane. (My os is WindowsXP)2) The eclipse subproject named UML2 may be a great threat to argoUML, although I haven't look at UML2 now.Anyway, thank ArgoUML's developers for the great tool!
