Reviewing Avalon-friendly "object brokering" options. Particularly, ways to
export services. There's been intermittent discussion about the use of JNDI
and JMX (I think someone mentioned JINI too), but I'm trying to summarize
what's out there right now. Please let me know if there are options I've
missed or ones misunderstand:
- Phoenix JMX adaptor (could use RMI to look up services as MBeans?)
- Merlin JNDI bindings (still under development)
- Cornerstone rmification
- AltRMI (unsure of internals -- ie- how it would plug into a container)
- Enterprise Object Broker (not at avalon, but Avalon friendly)
If I'm correct of these, only Merlin JNDI and EOB (and AltRMI?) allow direct
exporting of services without having to provide a remote or mbean wrapper.
AltRMI does allow direct exporting.. Phoenix's JMX adapter is primarily used to export management views of blocks, so what you are talking about is not really in scope with how it is implemented.
EOB uses AltRMI underneath, I think that might be your best bet, imho. -pete
