I need to bring the Excalibur Source Package into a Merlin component. However, this library is making use of the ServiceSelector. Is this functionality supported under Merlin (i don't think it is)? Otherwise, is there another way to handle such scenario?
I have bad dreams about the day when someone posts a message asking me about a real scenario when service selector is required. At least now it has happened and I don't need to worry spend any additional sleepless night worrying about it. No, Merlin does not support this.
* Selector semantics are evil, wicked, and just plain bad. * The functional requirement is totally valid.
Looking into the immediate future, I cannot see selector semantics appearing on the horizon real fast (i.e. think a two or four months, maybe more). There are simply too many unspecified semantics to make this predictable and this is a problem that is competing with a bunch or other priorities.
Bottom line questions:
1. can you avoid using a selector by declaring a dependency on a selection service?
2. if you are absolutely locked into selector semantics, how urgent it is?
3. workarounds to the problem are possible via cascading containers
4. think about option (1)
5. consider option (4)
6. your best bet is to go with any option less than 2 or greater than 3.
Cheers, Steve.
