Hi everyone:
I'm calling for a vote for the PMC to publish the release candidates that have been available for review and comments at:
http://www.apache.org/~mcconnell/dist
avalon-framework-4.1.5 (RC4)
----------------------------
This release includes backward compatible updates to the Version class to
provide support for the declaration of a "undefined" version, required by the
Avalon Meta package. The distribution also includes formal api/impl
seperation together, a convinience composite jar file, and updated maven
generated site documentation. Changes applied during the candidate review
process include moving the AbstractLogEnabled class from impl to api.
excalibur-configuration-1.1 (RC2)
---------------------------------
Includes updates supporting configuration listing and confiuration equality
testing used within the Avalon Meta package. Updates during the candidate
review process include addition of full site documentation.
excalibur-i18n-1.1 (RC2)
------------------------
Includes the addition of an operation to reset the locale to a non-default value. This update is required by the Merlin platform. Updates during the candidate
review process include addition of full site documentation.
avalon-meta-1.1 (RC2)
---------------------
Avalon meta-info model. This is a new package containing a meta-info
model for component type descriptors. The package is intended to
provide a container-neutral framework for the declaration of static
information related to: component type dependencies; service publication;
logging channel assumptions; context strategy, context casting assumptions;
context entry dependencies; context entry generation semantic; and
configuration schema details. Updates during the candidate process include
numerouse documentation fixes, correction to the api dependencies
(supporting jvm 1.3 usage), and correction to javadoc links.
merlin-3.0 b1 (RC4) composite ----------------------------- The Merlin service management platform. This package contains a set of facilities and frameworks dealing with component deployment and decommissioning on which the merlin platform is dependent. Subsystem included in the composite release include:
avalon-activation 1.0b1 (api,spi,impl) avalon-composition 1.0b1 (api,spi,impl) avalon-extension 1.0 (spi,impl) avalon-repository 1.0b1 (spi,impl)
The Merlin containment system is included in the following packages:
merlin-kernel 1.0b1 (spi,impl) merlin-bootstrap 1.0 merlin-plugin 1.0
The merlin 3.0 distribution include consilidated api documetation for the above packages, tutorials covering the majority of container features, together with specifications of the system meta model.
Changes to the platform during the candidature process have focusssed on cross-platform build and runtime issues - all of which have been resolved. Updates were made to the working directory naming conventions, improvements to the repository management (including the seperation of system from user repositories), improvements to the download reporting messages, and enhancements supporting repository population.
This vote is governed by the Avalon PMC voting guidelines and is decided by simple majority. Only PMC members can cast binding votes, but all others are encouraged to submit nonbinding votes. I will administer the vote and tally the results.
