Disregard Olaf's statement to some extent... ;o) Components does NOT necessary (as Stephen pointed out) need to implement any LifeCycle methods. This can still be useful for two reasons;
1. Some other component may use the ServiceManager and lookup your SimpleBean, find it and invoke methods un its exposed interface. 2. The component could potentially, create a new thread and start that thread, in its constructor. So you don't _need_ the wrappers. However, it is good practice that at least some major components are in fullfledged Avalon style, and by deduction the higher up in the application structure you go, the more likely it is that you will need one ( service() ) or more (configure(), service(), start()/stop(), dispose()) Life Cycle methods.
