Hi folks,

first, I am new to both Apache James and Avalon Merlin but I am Java developer with some experience. I tried to install James 2.1.3 (with Phoenix 4.0.1 included) on my FreeBSD 4.8 box running JDK 1.3.1 (patchlevel 9). But I was getting an AbstractMethodError from Phoenix. Because I wasn't able to launch Phoenix, I decided to move to Merlin.
I managed to download and install Merlin 3.0. I also installed James' BAR file using:
./merlin.sh -install http://dpml.net/james/james-server.bar

Then, I set up 2 xml files (block.xml, config.xml) and launched Merlin with:
./merlin.sh block.xml -conf config.xml
Or something like that. Anyway, that configured and *launched* James. I was able to telnet to pop3, smtp and nntp. But then I shut Merlin down...

And now, I can't launch James. Phoenix has a nice feature of dropping a SAR into apps folder of ${phoenix.home}. Then typing "./phoenix.sh run" caused installation and configuration of that SAR application. Has Merlin similar feature?

Thanks in any advance,

David Stastny
