I'm attempting to start OpenIM (which uses Merlin and Maven) on a system that has IBM's WebSphere Application Server 5 installed (version 5.0.2.3, if it matters). I get an exception that comes from Merlin when trying to start OpenIM:
There is nothing in Merlin that references IBMPKCS11 so I guessing that either the security policy file has been modified on your local environment - or an extension has been added to the JVM which is failing to load when the JVM establishes the system loader (i.e. something that is happening prior to the Merlin main instantiation).
Can you confirm how "pure" your JRE environment is?
Untouched. It is an out-of-the box WAS5 environment with fixpacks to bring it up to 5.0.2.3.
