Steve,
Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction!
1. checkout avalon/truck from svn - here is the info about svn and getting that sorted <http://avalon.apache.org/central/resources/svn/starting.html>
2. cd to the avalon truck root directory and ...
$ ant setup $ ant
There seems to be a problem[1] with the build similar to the one that was mentioned here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg19663.html
3. you now have anything ready to do an install of merlin but first off - what platform are you running on?
At this time, I'm running on Win2k.
OK - the build will create a zipped distribution of the latest merlin system under runtime/merlin/cli/target/deliverables/dist. Just unzip that somewhere convinient, define MERLIN_HOME and your in business. There are a couple of things to think about when setting up Merlin and Magic but we can get to that once we sort this build error.
So, should I wait a few months until things stabilize, or should I just ask questions on the list?
just post questions to the list
Ok, thanks a lot!!
Just a note - your currently not subscribed to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list which means that your messages get moderated. Subscribing means your message will hit the list faster and reduce the overhead for merators.
A good idea may be to post some info about what your planning on doing and an idea of the time. Getting merlin and magic up and running should not be a problem and getting to grips with component stuff is usually a rapid process - embedding takes you to the next level and you will probably want to play in the facilities area (which is more complex but a lot more powerful within respect to advanced dynamic management) - but more an that as you get going
Ok, thanks for the advice!
I plan on being around here for a while. Avalon will become the base for the project I'm working on. I'll feed you more details if necessary, I just don't want to be too much of a burden.
I'll begin by poking around with the tutorials as you suggested.
[1] Here is the error:
[get] Error opening connection java.io.FileNotFoundException:
That's no suprise becuse the file is question is not on dpml. Normally invoking the 'ant setup' should have taken care of this. Could you run the following command post me directly the file setup.log.
$ ant -l setup.log setup
Steve.
