You're right, may it's not a good Idea to save passwords at disk. I
don't wanna do that no longer ;-)

Thanks to all who answered!
I've downloaded both new: beonex and hamster. Now all works fine.
The new version of hamster supports ehlo. Don't know if that was the
reason.
The get new message botton works well now. I deleted the old mozilla files.
