Michael, thanks. I didn't pick up on the fact that, once I imported the certificate, I also needed to make this selection. I prefer GPG to S/MIME, so I'm basically insufficiently familiar with how S/MIME really operates. (For example, using my only certificate, which I know to be good and to be mine, I sent a digitally signed email to myself at a different account. It came in, through a different, S/MIME-capable mail program, as having an invalid signature. I don't have a clue why, but I think I'll worry about it some other day....)
