We are pleased to announce an upcoming BioMart workshop that will take place
on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 9am to 12pm in Toronto, Canada. This
BioMart workshop is offered as part of the GMOD meeting, which will take
place on October 12-13 (http://gmod.org/wiki/October_2011_GMOD_Meeting).

*Workshop Details*



*Target audience:*

The workshop is intended for current and prospective BioMart deployers and
BioMart users.  Experience in working with any type of database platforms
and Linux command line environment is required. Experience with a scripting
language such as Perl or Python is encouraged.



*Workshop agenda:*

§  Introduction to the BioMart system.

§  Demonstration of the BioMart Central Portal (http://central.biomart.org)
and the International Cancer Genome Consosrtium (ICGC) Data Portal (
http://dcc.icgc.org) to illustrate how BioMart can be used to build a
high-availability portal.

§  Hands-on tutorials to:

o   Create a new data mart from existing data source using MartBuilder;

o   Configure a registry to expose the mart built in previous step using
MartConfigurator;

o   Import external mart and link it with the local mart;

o   Deploy the BioMart server to provide data access to the above marts;

o   Query the BioMart server via web GUI and REST API.



*Requirements: *

You will need a laptop with VMware Player, Vmware Workstation, or VirtualBox
already installed and running. VMware player for Linux and Windows operating
systems is freely available from VMware (http://vmware.com/products/player/).
Mac users may use VMware Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/) on
a 30 day free trail available). VirtualBox is freely available from
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads.
