I am new to the use of this software (as you will no doubt discover). I have a
Ubuntu 14.10 x64 workstation with a dual-core processor, and ran the
"Simplified Tutorial for New Users" accompanying the Einstein Toolkit's
Herschel release. I performed the tutorial exactly as specified and obtained
the same results, the run requiring about eight hours (when done in such a way
as to reduce computational effort).
I noted that only one core had been used to obtain these results, and would
like to be able to use both cores, preferably employing a method that would be
applicable to future projects as well. One thing I did was to compile
openmpi-1.8.4 from source code and install it. I was curious about one of the
instructions, which differs slightly between Ubuntu and Fedora:
# for Ubuntu, Mint./simfactory/bin/sim setup --optionlist=ubuntu.cfg
--runscript debian.sh# for Fedora 19, 20module load mpi./simfactory/bin/sim
setup --optionlist=fedora.cfg --runscript debian.sh
I suppose that almost everyone on this list uses multiple-core computers for
such computations. If anyone could point me to instructions for obtaining such
operation, it would be greatly appreciated.  Robert "Tim" Kopp
