forgot to add transacted to the route:

<route>
  <from uri="activemq:topic:src"/>
  <transacted />
  <to uri="activemq:topic:dest"/> 
</route>

but I just get the error:

Invalid content was found starting with element 'transacted'. One of ... 
expected
