The ui uses the api which calls the management server, which delegates functions to complete the api call to agents (for instance to query hypervisors). To add monitoring functions you'd have to extend both the api and the hypervisor drivers.
Have a look at http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/api/index.html to see if you can do what you want yet.
