Actually KVM snapshot was implemented long ago but was not merged to trunk due to 1) it needs a modified libvirt-java (which is supposed to be included in latest release now), 2) it is not fully tested, 3) unable to meter the usage 4) it has some known issue like your qcow2 disk file will grow after snapshot but will not shrink when snapshot is removed.
