To clarify.. When XenServer is being used with CloudStack it behaves differently than a standalone XenServer.
When a VM is running, it is shown in XenCenter or when listed via XE commands etc. However when you stop a VM, as far as XenServer is concerned it has been destroyed, with only the Volumes left behind on Storage. This may sound like a strange way of doing things but it makes sense when you consider that when CloudStack starts a VM, it does all sorts of configuration as changes could have been made whilst the VM is off such as: Add or Remove NICs Add or Remove Storage / IOS Change CPU/RAM (via compute offering) Change Affinity Groups The Hypervisor which will run the VM is only chosen when the VM starts, so any Hypervisor with access to the Shared Storage for the Cluster could start the VM. AFAIK that is normal, you don't need the VM definition on the hypervisor, CloudStack will recreate it when needed. > Management log shows: > > 2014-10-06 14:55:37,365 DEBUG [c.c.a.t.Request] > (Work-Job-Executor-70:ctx-ea29a5b5 job-158/job-159 ctx-65d35099) Seq > 1-1867586470475218798: Sending { Cmd , MgmtId: 90520745720479, via: > 1(xcp1), Ver: v1, Flags: 100011, > [{"com.cloud.agent.api.StopCommand":{"isProxy":false,"executeInSequenc > e":false,"checkBeforeCleanup":false,"vmName":"i-2-13-VM","wait":0}}] > } > 2014-10-06 14:55:37,365 DEBUG [c.c.a.t.Request] > (Work-Job-Executor-70:ctx-ea29a5b5 job-158/job-159 ctx-65d35099) Seq > 1-1867586470475218798: Executing: { Cmd , MgmtId: 90520745720479, via: > 1(xcp1), Ver: v1, Flags: 100011, > [{"com.cloud.agent.api.StopCommand":{"isProxy":false,"executeInSequenc > e":false,"checkBeforeCleanup":false,"vmName":"i-2-13-VM","wait":0}}] > } > > …… > > Then shortly after that: > 2014-10-06 14:56:24,867 DEBUG [c.c.h.x.r.CitrixResourceBase] > (DirectAgent-282:ctx-29a6d080) 10. Best is to tail the log 1 second before you hit launch, and paste the log content on pastebin after the exception occurs. -- Erik Find out more about ShapeBlue and our range of CloudStack related services IaaS Cloud Design & Build<http://shapeblue.com/iaas-cloud-design-and-build//> CSForge – rapid IaaS deployment framework<http://shapeblue.com/csforge/> CloudStack Consulting<http://shapeblue.com/cloudstack-consultancy/> CloudStack Infrastructure Support<http://shapeblue.com/cloudstack-infrastructure-support/> CloudStack Bootcamp Training Courses<http://shapeblue.com/cloudstack-training/> This email and any attachments to it may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed.
