I've tried XenServer open source release with the ceph hack via libvirt about a
year ago. This was working okay for the PoC, however, i've not really had the
chance to run any stress tests or benchmarks, etc. Just created a few quick vms
and quick dd, etc. It was working okay, but this is not production ready nor
supported by Citrix.

Since then, I've not seen many updates about XenServer + Ceph integration. It
would be nice to have ceph support in commercial hypervisor platforms such as
XenServer and VMWare, but I guess enterprises do not think that ceph is ready
for prime time yet.

I've been using ceph for a few years now and it has improved dramatically over
the period. A bunch of new features are now supported, the community is
fantastic! However, I did have several issues with ceph which caused downtime
to my infrastructure, which was a set back.

I hope that over the next couple of years the redhat/inktank/ceph community
teams will concentrate more on testing and stability of ceph rather than
creating new bells and whistles.
