I have read on some other forums too that this may cause due to the 
compatibility with the NICs.  I will try to uninstall the NIC and try to boot 
and see.

We had a problem with E1000 Nics on Vmware after we upgraded to 4.9. All our 
existing Windows templates using E1000 hung on boot. Swapping these to VMXNet3 
solved it.
