Subject: [DISCUSS] New Design for the Apache CloudStack Website
Hello,
I would like to start a discussion on the design of the Apache
CloudStack Website and to propose a new design for it.
As we all know, the website has not been changed for years in terms of
design and information. The biggest issue we know we have is that the
website is not showing the full potential of CloudStack. In addition
to
it during discussions with many community members, I have noted the
following issues:
Hey this is a REALLY good look and feel - UX is perhaps the single most
important thing that lends confidence in the capability and suitability
of a product or platform, with UI being the second, and of course both
of these things may not really amount to a hell of beans where the
merits of a fine product is anctually concerned, and an ugly or outdated
appearance certainly doesn't matter when it really comes down to it in
tems of stability, functionality, and suitability for a particular
technical mission...
But without a pretty front end already in place the relegates such
suitability, functionality, and stability to 3rd place (truth be told,
we know this is the most important), it's really hard to convince an
audience that is largely convinced of these things by the "Cover of the
Book" - because that is indeed how they do judge most software.
Anyway, it's great that we have somethingin the way of a public facing
presence that looks and feels as good as CloudStack is capable, stable,
and mature.
- the existing website design is old-school
- the current homepage does not collect enough information to show
CloudStack's strengths
- current website design is missing images from the ACS UI and cannot
create a feel for the product in the users
- the website has issues on a mobile device
- we lack any graphic and diagrams
- some important information like how to download is not very visible
Addressing these matters, which as I stated above really make little
difference in the true potential of CloudStack, was a long time coming
and it's truly refreshing to know that the public can be impressed with
the cover of the book as well as the chapters within :)
Again, Whoa, what a difference really looks good :)
