We once looked at linstor (https://linbit.com/linstor/) from the company
LINBIT, well known for open source DRBD. They have a professional
solution to sync local storage across machines. This allows to live
migrate VMs to another host.

and AFAIR they once presented it on a cloustack meetup, I found this

Anyway. I am not related to linbit nor have we tested it in production
yet but it looks promising.
