Hi There,

We are using Linstor in Production at the moment with a disaggregated setup
(compte and storage separate servers).

Our storage server are using the following specs:

# 1U Served
# 1 Socket of AMD 7313
# 8 x 16 GB Memory
# HPE Boot Drive (480gb with RAID1)
# 8 x 15.36TB NVME (With RAID 10)
# 1 PCIE x (2x100GB) Mellanox NIC

With these specs in production, even when services are fully utilised, i see
the utilisations hover at:

# CPU Util around 2%
# Memory Util around 15%

And it doesnt go higher than that. I remember this is why Linbit once said that
the consumption of linstor is super low which is what makes it ideal for
Hyperconverged setups.

But this gives me a problem where the servers are heavily underutilised. We are
mainly an AMD shop, so there isnt a CPU model lower than that.

In my future purchases, i would be getting these specs instead (or similar).

# 2U Served -> Supports more than 8NVME
# 1 Socket of AMD 7313
# 4 x 16 GB Memory -> Increase when needed
# HPE Boot Drive (480gb with RAID1)
# 8 x 15.36TB NVME (With RAID 10) -> Increase when needed
# 1 PCIE x (2x100GB) Mellanox NIC -> Increase when needed

I also wonder right now if we need RAID 10, since we use diskless, meaning we
have 2 running copies of linstor in a cluster.

Currently wondering if using RAID 6 would be more value for money in production
environments instead of RAID 10. Anyone have experiences in that?

Regards,
Bryan
