Yeah, ifupdown2 is easier, but ubuntu doesn't have it. It has ifupdown-ng which is supposed to be similar but when I tested it I couldn't get some vxlan stuff to work even though it was correct as per ifupdown2. I'm currently not tied to netplan I just happen to have it working.
