What I meant was, I don't see parameters allowing me to create groups via CLI. But if I change the configuration live (crm configure edit), I can create resource groups. I'm also managing a SUSE HA cluster where I have the Hawk UI available, there I could create resource groups via GUI. But according to the URL (.../cib/live/resources/types), it appears that it works similar in the background. Anyway, I could successfully upgrade our OpenStack cluster yesterday with the help my script, it worked as expected. In the script I put only the cloned resources (OpenStack services) into maintenance, move the VIP and the stateful service to the other node and perform the upgrade without downtime. In the upcoming weeks, I will try to familiarize myself with those resource groups and adapt them into my script.

Okay, I can't use the cli for that, but apparently I can edit the
existing configuration and add groups:

Why can't you use the CLI? The crm shell is really useful.
