Hi: I had the same problem long time ago.
Please increase the memory used by tomcat and cocoon. At least 128, recommended 256 or more. Second question: ask if someone will really read or use a database generated report of hundreds of pages in PDF. For me this is impractical. Maybe you need to set some filter in your sistem before the generation.
