There is an excellent article at http://wiki.cocoondev.org/Wiki.jsp?page=ApacheModProxy which clarifies the issues and various configuration issues. One thing to remember with using Apache's mod_proxy is that it only supports HTTP 1.0 therefore keep-alive is not supported.
