I'm just working on my own machine for demonstration purposes.
It does seem to be the case that Cocoon using proxy servers can't get external urls.
(though I'm not sure this is the case with previous versions)
I got the following response from Sylvain Thevoz.

It's not a huge issue as I can use saved XML data for the demos.
It'll be a problem when I want to use live feeds.  I'll just have to install on the 
main server.
It'd be great if Cocoon had some way of setting up for proxy-server use.

What happen's when doing this? What's your Cocoon setup esp. Cocoon version? 
Someone else already mentioned some days ago problems with proxy.
