Hi, the caching algorithms in 2.0.4 and 2.1 are the same, but 2.1 now uses improved interfaces, like CacheableProcessingComponent instead of Cacheable. But they are basically the same, so updating shouldn't be that hard and 2.1 still supports Cacheable.
Unfortunately, this topic hasn't been documented :(, I added some sentences into the updating docs. Thanks for bringing this up!
