cannot create a quartz scheduler

I'm trying to port my version of Hugo's Woody-Hibernate sample to 
cfoms.  When I add the following to cocoon.xconf:

<component role="com.displayware.hiblib.PersistentFactory" 
class="com.displayware.hiblib.Hibernate"/>

I get the following error message:

"cannot create a quartz scheduler"

Has anyone encountered this before?  Thanks.
