file upload into TEXT column via modular db action?

i noticed that uploading the contents of a file to a BLOB via the 
modular db action works just fine. i need to upload xml files into a 
TEXT column though.

the default behaviour of the modular db action is to set the colum to 
the path of the file, not the file content, in this case. i tried with 
both the string and ascii types.

any ideas how to best address this?
