Joerg I will look at fd:output again; but I had problems when it was a "required" field (got errors)
As for the form input readonly attribute, please see: http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/forms/_INPUT_DISABLED.html I quote: "Currently only MSIE recognizes either of these attributes. " and "It's important to understand that READONLY merely prevents the user from changing the value of the field, *not* from interacting with the field." Which does not address my problem.
