I would say its extremely useful ito updating XML pages.  Getting it
to work with a database will certainly take some programming (but
maybe less than you think).  The benefit is separating logic vs
content
vs layout in the form creation... a bit tricky the first time round but
then
it gets easier to start and certainly easier to maintain.

For starters, look at the samples in:

http://localhost:8080/cocoon/samples/blocks/tour/

and then those in:

http://localhost/cocoon215/samples/blocks/forms/
