Even if it's a dream, I like the idea: a hundred users times a hundred dollars is $10k actually.
If we could get some form of "street performer protocol" [1] setup to allow users to get together and finance such work, I'm sure some of us would be willing to take the job (I definitely would).
We'd have to check with the ASF guidelines and make sure this is done in a healthy way, but finding an easy way for people to sponsor work on our projects is one of my top five dreams today.
Having the "easily sponsor someone else" option for fixing things, in addition to "doing it yourself" or "waiting for someone to do it" could be a very powerful addition to our collective toolbox.
So we're at two dreams now ;-)
