Derek,
I think your problem is that in the root Cocoon sitemap the following
matcher exists.
<!-- favicon -->
<map:match pattern="**favicon.ico">
<map:read mime-type="image/x-icon" src="resources/icons/
cocoon.ico"/>
</map:match>
This takes precedence over anything you define in your sub-sitemaps.
