Itext vs FOP and JFOR block

I'm tryinfg to make a decision on which blocks to use to generate pdf and 
rtf files from xml. I could use Itext for both PDF and RTF file 
generation,yet on the cocoon examples, the jfor block is used to generate 
rtf instead of itext. When to use one or other??
