IMHO it doesn't matter much, the way in which these component managers are integrated will be similar, so I'd say use whatever's most comfortable for you.
My intention in using HiveMind for bricks-cms was to use ASF tools wherever possible, and I like HiveMind's "lightness" very much. But the decision of which POJO-based container to use has little impact on your overall application structure. As long as you use a good container, and I think both HiveMind and Spring are good.
You might also want to have a look at the spring-app block, which provides good integration between components managed by Spring and Cocoon. But I think it uses 2.2-specific mechanisms which won't work in 2.1.x.
