We were experiencing performance problems on a production site, and
the timeline wasn't wide enough to let me upgrade the whole Cocoon
jars bag at once, plus we had components tied to either Avalon or
cocoon.xconf, so I first chose to switch the cache provider. For what
it's worth, Whirlycache is said to be faster than EHCache, see
https://whirlycache.dev.java.net/.

I'm already using EHCache w/ Hibernate, I just gave Whirlycache a try
to see if it worked fine. Apparently, it does :p

Well.. nothing. Whirlycache cleans up itself.

May I ask if your StatusGenerator is showing EHCache's store contents,
and if so which version of Cocoon are you using ?

Thanks
